XX is the Roman numeral for twenty, in this case twenty carefully selected batches of old, (mostly twenty year old) rare malt whiskies were chosen by twenty of the worlds most gifted Malt Masters. They were invited to meticulously taste every rare barrel of whisky within the cavernous Conval warehouse at Glenfiddich (located in the famous Speyside whisky region of Scotland) and select their favourites for inclusion in the top-secret Project XX. The result is nothing short of mesmerising. Nose: Honey and heather with thick caramel notes and a subtle nutmeg spice. Dried meadow flowers and a hint of fresh banana.

Palate: Smooth and succulent with a honeyed sweetness that's typical of Johnnie Walker. There's more to this though, the floral elements are quite prominent and there's a spiced sweet vanilla note too.

Finish: Long, sweet and toffee-like.

The Macallan treated this 18 Year Old to not just one, but two cask content-types for its maturation, released as part of the Double Cask series! Oloroso sherry was used to season a combination of both American and European oak casks, with the former imparting vanilla nuances while the latter brings that hallmark Macallan spice. Another fantastic sherried single malt from the Speyside distillery!

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried fruit, ginger and toffee. Rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg.

Palate: Rich raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus.

Finish: Warm oak spice with ginger, turning to sweet orange.
