ANGOSTURA®, celebrated worldwide for its rich history in creating aromatic and orange bitters, has expanded its renowned collection to include ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters. We only use the world’s finest, the Trinitario cocoa from Trinidad and Tobago. This paired with 200 years of unparalleled bitters expertise have resulted in this truly decadent, indulgent new flavour. Top notes of rich bitter, floral, nutty cocoa with a bold infusion of aromatic botanicals provide endless possibilities to remix classic cocktails and put a luxurious spin on a main dish or a sweet treat. Trinidad and Tobago is one of the few countries designated as a 100% fine or flavour cocoa producer. A status it has held for decades.

Tasting Notes

Rich, dark brown color. On the nose, distinct cocoa inveigles the nose to inviting warm spices and citrus undertones. On the palate, top notes of rich, floral, nutty cocoa combined with an intoxicating infusion of aromatic botanicals.

A unique liqueur that has been appreciated by barmen for nearly two centuries as a cocktail ingredient. Angostura Aromatic Bitters is a secret mix of concentrated essences. Produced in Trinidad, the liqueur is obtained from spices, herbal extracts, natural herbs, orange peel, bitter and aromatic substances.

Featuring outstanding aromatic qualities, only a few drops of Angostura Bitters is enough to make a difference and magnify your favorite cocktails.

Angostura Aromatic Bitters History

It owes its invention to the MD, Johann Siegert, native of Germany, who left his homeland in 1820, attracted by the scent of adventure. He went to Venezuela to join the Simon Bolivar Liberation Army, the founder of the State of Bolivia, in its fight against the Spanish throne. Dr. Siegert was treating soldiers with fever and severe intestinal problems.

After four years of research and analysis on the virtues of tropical plants, in 1824 he developed his 'bitters' to stimulate appetite and digestion of the suffering soldiers. After the wars, Angostura bitters reputation spread to the United States and Britain due to the strong maritime activity in the Caribbean. Thus started the worldwide reputation of the product, now recognized as an essential ingredient in achieving many cocktails.

These Cocoa Bitters from the Bitter Bastards range won't make your drinks taste like you've been slapped in the face with one of those hilariously oversized 1kg chocolate bars which were so popular in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Rather, they'll add richness and depth similar to that of a good dark chocolate to your cocktails - we recommend rum-based cocktails...

Wormwood is a vital ingredient in absinthe (some might even go so far as to say it is THE vital ingredient, and they'd probably be right!), so you can bet your bottom dollar that the Bitter Bastards Wormwood Bitters will add an extra flourish to cocktails requiring absinthe or pastis.

These bitters were made to a carefully considered recipe and produced using rapid-maceration to capture the full flavours of the plant while reducing any undesirable notes. It is also centrifugally extracted for clarity with no loss of flavour, and because centrifuges are rad.
